Old Streets in Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria

One of the most picturesque streets of the Revival town, with many restored old houses is Gurko Street. They are clustered next to each other, on top of each other and all face the river. Gurko Street is the epitome of romance and beauty – a unique and attractive street.
On Varusha are preserved the Revival traditions of beauty and home comfort. On the windows of the houses are neatly placed pots with geraniums, ivy, winding vines, planted on every inch of vacant land. The street is decorated with fountains and lanterns that illuminate the houses, the people, the quiet peaceful evenings.

Many houses and roofs on the old streets are perched on top of each other, down – Yantra river , meandering below the height at which the city is located. There is no other place where this amazing fusion of nature with the architectural tradition can be so well revealed, so that these houses “grow into the rocks like swallows’ nests”.
